The NCS has something to offer anyone interested in chinchillas!
| The NCS can offer something of real value to you! Joining is easy. It can be done online on this website by clicking “JOIN US” . Members will receive four gazettes per membership year which runs from July 1st to June 30th. The gazettes contain lots of interesting articles, not just around exhibiting and breeding, but also around husbandry, care and health, as well as lots of top tips on keeping these wonderful animals . Even if not interested in exhibiting (at least at present), many pet owners wish to keep their chinchillas happy, healthy and looking as well as they can, and the principles of show preparation and good husbandry are literally perfect in achieving these aims. Attending the regional shows and the National gives you an opportunity to discuss chinchillas with other knowledgeable owners and breeders. There is nothing quite like a face-to-face discussion with highly experienced owners chinchilla breeders and owners . As a breeder of pets for fun, the NCS offers endless education and training in keeping your chins happy, healthy, and as beautiful as can be! Again there is the Gazette but also access to a network of other owners and breeders. The shows offer all chinchilla keepers of all levels of experience an opportunity to find out the qualities of their chinchillas, and to ‘breed better’, not just for the show table, but for all round healthy animals. The NCS strives for sustainable high quality in the chinchilla, and no matter if you currently only breed for fun, the NCS offers opportunity to do what you do now, even better! As a breeder aiming to improve the chinchilla, the NCS is the society to join. The phrase “If you do something, you might as well do it well” applies to chinchilla ownership and breeding. If you are going to keep them, look after them to the best of your abilities. If you are going to breed them, do so by producing the best kits you can, from not only a quality perspective, but also health and welfare. |
All chinchillas cost roughly the same to feed and care for and buying a quality animal with a known background is likely to cost you very little more than buying one from a pet shop. So if you choose to breed them, why not try to breed beautiful, healthy animals that have the finest fur in the world! The shows are there to help you with this, and the camaraderie and competition is great at encouraging you to improve your chinchillas as a breed, and also a great place to see beautiful, inspiring chinchillas first hand and to talk to knowledgeable breeders!
THE GUIDE TO QUALITY CHINCHILLAS
The N.C.S. has published a booklet called THE GUIDE TO QUALITY CHINCHILLAS. It is issued free to all members upon joining the N.C.S. (Copies are also available to non-members priced at £3.50). This booklet will give you a good starting point to breeding quality Chinchillas, it has photographs and diagrams along with in-depth information about all aspects of quality in Chinchillas .
Something for Everyone!
So whatever your level of interest in chinchillas, be it keeping them purely as pets, breeding or showing, the National Chinchilla Society has something to offer you. Although you have to be a member to exhibit, everyone is welcome to attend our shows (entry is free). As well as seeing the beautiful chinchillas, the shows are great social events and are an opportunity to talk “chinchillas” with experienced breeders and other owners.
